PR In Your Pajamas Expert, Elena Verlee

I’m curious.  How many of you are using free publicity to build your business?

Are you wanting to attract profitable partnerships and reach markets outside your inner circle? Is your business the first one people think of when looking for your service or expertise?  Are you finding clients ready to invest with you at higher rates?

For myself, I’m always interested in looking for more ways to grow my business FAST, without having to invest a lot of money in marketing.  That’s why I was intrigued by Elena Verlee’s new free teleclass on Tuesday, June 29 called “How to Create Powerful Stories That Get You Free Publicity.”

Here’s the link to sign up:

Mama CEO You’ve Got To Know!

Recognizing how each of us are wired, can absolutely impact the way we communicate with each other, find business employees and partners, and really “get” the other people in our life and they, in turn, understand us better too. Deb Ingino has been using and training others with the DISC tool for over 20 years, and created a space for more families and employers to grow stronger in their understanding of how they are wired to be able to be better parents, friends, employers, and build even more confidence in being the way they naturally are. I’ve had the privilege of meeting Deb in person in January and truly loved her insight and passion for helping others become aware of our own “wiring”. I highly recommend checking out her resources at www.MyWiredStyle.com. I’ve got a copy of her new book for children, The Discovery Adventure Club and have to say it is a fantastic resource for understanding our children better! I’ve started to see in my 17-month Ms. Cutie Pie how she’s wired because that book has started to help me see how to look at where she is even now and help encourage her in the ways she’s “wired”. You can also find her on Twitter at www.twitter.com/MyWiredStyle

You don’t have to be in business long before you realize the intricacies and massiveness of what it takes to run a business.  There are what seems like a million details and so much work to be done.  As a mom entrepreneur you are likely doing most of this work on your own, so you will probably want to “simplify” the process as much as possible.

In order to simplify your business you must put some systems in place that will allow you to do so.  Creating systems allows you to have peace of mind so that if you or someone on your team gets sick someone can pick up the work easily and run with it.

These systems may include:  a manual of business tasks,  a file-sharing process, a cookie cutter email or two for responding quickly to emails.  It isn’t the “what” as much as it is the “how”.  Creating systems that help others know “how” to do the things that you do everyday in your business.  This will allow them to take some of the load off of you as well as stand in the gap if you have to be away for whatever reason.

Systems are life-savers, allowing your business to run smoothly in times of normal business activity and allowing your business to simply run in times of crisis.

Systems will take some time to create from the beginning, but if you’re just starting out you have the advantage of being able to create systems now that can serve you into the future.  Or if you’re not exactly a newbie at business, you can still start to put systems in place.  There is no better time than now to get started.  After all, you will likely need to tweak things along the way.

Every well oiled machine will need a tune-up from time to time, so don’t think it is something that you’ll only do once.  However, it will be much easier if you do the maintenance from the start rather than letting it go awhile without it.

No matter where you are in business, I’d be willing to bet you could benefit from the simplicity of systems.

Outsourcing, it is something that as a mom entrepreneur you have likely heard of, and you might quite possibly be interested in or even scared of, depending upon your situation. Outsourcing is highly promoted and wildly popular but it can take some getting used to and some creativeness at times to be able to fit into your budget.

Outsourcing involves handing over different tasks of your business to someone else to free up some of your time so that you can focus on the aspects of your business that no one else can do. There are so many different tasks involved in a business from managing email to spending time networking that one person simply cannot do it all, and do it effectively.

This is where outsourcing comes into play and can be very beneficial. However, the fact is many mom entrepreneur’s may shy away from outsourcing for some of the reasons mentioned earlier, the fear of letting go, the fact that they can’t afford it, or simply the wish that they could handle it all themselves. Whatever the case, be encouraged outsourcing is a good thing and an integral part of any success business. You can outsource many tasks, including but not limited to writing, blogging, social networking, email management, and more.

The good news is there are creative ways to outsource that can help to alleviate those fears and help to solve any issues that you might have with finances. The costless possibilities include: bartering, interns, students and your own kids (if they are old enough). Then there are low cost options such as focused projects versus paid by the hour.

Let’s break these down:

Bartering involves basically trading with someone else hour for hour or equally by offering something of equal value to them as the tasks that you need completed. This may mean that you can offer coaching to a virtual assistant who is just starting out in business for 10 hours of work time every month for you. The possibilities are endless.

Interns are available to help you in your business in return for learning from the experience that they gain as a result as well as learning from you as a business owner. Interns typically work for an agreed upon amount of time without pay in exchange for the experience gained.

Students and your own kids can also work for low cost or no cost depending upon the agreement made with them. Most students and your kids will work for less than you would have to pay an adult. You could have them file papers, post blog posts, or any other tasks that you can teach them to do quickly and easily.

Focused projects versus paid by the hour. Many times you have a large project that you are trying to finish. A virtual assistant can many times give you a rate for that particular project that is different than what they would charge for a regular retainer fee by the hour. This allows you to pay per project rather than by the hour and can many times save you money while still accomplishing your project.

I’m excited that through the Group Coaching program, starting NEXT Wednesday, January 20th we’ll be covering how to delegate effectively – and I’m even giving Done For You Tools so you can hand them off and not have to teach your team yourself! Top Online Tools for Mom Entrepreneurs: YouTube

YouTube.com is the place to begin your video marketing! With over 20 hours of video being upload EVERY MINUTE YouTube truly found a niche and has been able to impact over 100 million people through online video. If you are currently not using video to market you or your business, you can do so very simply with your webcam, tools like Jing Project to teach people about your products/services (like I just used to make this video above!) or a simple video camera. I use the Flip Camera, which makes video creation SUPER SIMPLE – it’s as easy as turning it on, pressing record, and connecting it to your computer. The software is built into the camera so you can literally upload it to your computer and right onto YouTube. Ah-mazing – I love it!

Here is the link to getting a simple Flip camera on Amazon.com – the other nice thing, it’s quite affordable compared to other video cameras out there. I don’t even have the HD version – just the basic simplified Flip Camera is all I use. :D
